About the Conference
Design is inherently a collaborative endeavour, requiring synergies across various domains, cultures, and skills. At ICED25, we aim to explore and celebrate the collective nature of design, emphasizing the critical role of teamwork in engineering design. Engineers, stakeholders, and practitioners from diverse backgrounds converge in the collaborative arena of design, where the intersections between disciplines, cultures, and human-artificial agent partnerships are essential. ICED25 seeks to be a platform where the global design research community can come together to share their insights, experiences, and best practices, particularly in the context of collaboration and teamwork.
We invite researchers and practitioners to contribute papers that showcase research endeavours supporting collaboration in design. Whether your work is rooted in inquiry-based research, problem-based research, or invention-based research, ICED25 is eager to explore and showcase the latest advancements in fostering collaborative design practices.
Join us in this celebration of teamwork and collaboration at ICED25, where we aim to build bridges between diverse perspectives, inspire innovation, and shape the future of engineering design. Submit your papers and be part of a dynamic community dedicated to advancing the field of design as a team sport. Together, let's push the boundaries of what is possible in collaborative engineering design.
We look forward to welcoming you at ICED25!
Paper Submission and Publishing
We invite you to embrace the conference theme of ‘Design is a Team Sport’ and submit full papers on the following topics:
- Design Teams and Collaborative Design
- Human-AI Collaboration
- AI and Data-Driven Design
- Human Behaviour and Cognition in Design
- Human-centred Design
- Design Creativity and Innovation
- Design Education
- Design Informatics
- Design Theory and Methods
- Systems Design and Engineering
- Design Management and Processes
- Design Practice and Entrepreneurship
- Design for Culture and Societal Challenges
- Design for Health and Wellbeing
- Design for Sustainability and Resilience
- Design for Advanced Manufacturing
The conference will include plenary, podium and discussion sessions. Following a double-blind peer review, papers will be allocated to appropriate sessions. All accepted papers will be included in the conference proceedings published Open Access by Cambridge University Press. Papers will be published as part of the Proceedings of the Design Society, have a DOI number, and are indexed on SCOPUS.
Exceptional papers will be recommended for extension and submission to our partner journals.
The conference will also include a ‘Market Place’ which will give the opportunity to demonstrate current research activity. A paper is not required for this, participation details will be provided through an open call on the conference website in early 2025. Examples of this can include both software demonstrations or preliminary research posters.

Conference Venue
ICED25 will take place at the University of Texas at Dallas, in the Engineering and Computer Science building, Richardson.
With a meteoric trajectory of growth and a rapidly expanding mechanical engineering program in its infancy, the University of Texas at Dallas seized a rare opportunity: Create a next-generation research facility in concert with a next-generation engineering program. While most engineering buildings focus on either research, instruction or the student experience, the design of this one is a meaningful fusion of all three in a very deliberate, intentionally balanced way.
