Abstract
Design catalogs have been developed as a tool for the designer to solve construction problems. The previous approaches to implement design cata-logues as computer-aided tools did not delivered the desired results, since they are mainly aimed at the early phase of product development. This paper describes an approach in which computer aided design catalogs and knowledge based design systems are coupled together to eliminate this limi-tation. The resulting system is presented and discussed using dust separators as an example.
