Abstract
The high diversification in the automotive sector is a consequence of the
increasing desire of customers for products, which meet their individual
needs. These needs are closely linked to customers’ characteristics. The
knowledge of these characteristics is an essential input for the definition of
functional requirements for vehicle design. Former research identified correlations
between user characteristics and the individual driving behavior. But an
overall approach, which describes customer groups and their usage pattern
totally, is missing. Therefore, a methodology was developed, which establishes
a link between the essential characteristics of user groups and specific
usage pattern. The results of the methodology application can be used for the
derivation of functional requirements.
