Human Behaviour in Design (HBiD)
Agenda
The Special Interest Group Human Behaviour in Design (HBiD) has been formed in order to share information and experience in research and application related to behavioural aspects of designing. The Human Behaviour SIG is starting to investigate new research methods and approaches. The main objective is to strengthen and increase joint research activities within the international community.
Focus
In recent years methods and techniques, which are developed in behavioural and cognitive science, made an enormous step forward. Techniques like eye tracking achieved a high level of maturity and they are increasingly applied in different research fields. In some domains they have already proven their potential to answer important research questions and have showed outstanding results. The SIG leaders are convinced that eye tracking and related methods have potential to provide new opportunities in engineering design research.
Within the field of engineering design, researcher recently started using eye tracking within their specific research context. In pilot studies eye tracking was successfully applied to observe engineers during the design process as well as customer during the usage of a product. The SIG addresses researchers, who apply or are interested applying eye tracking and related methods from cognitive science in their research. The objective is to bring those researchers together, discuss their research results, share raw data, share experiences about pitfalls and traps, find common interests and challenges with the new research methods and establish collaboration.
Type of events
The SIG will elaborate new research approaches like eye tracking for a period of 2 years:
• Starting with a first workshop at the ICED 13 (Seoul, Korea)
• Sharing first results and experiences on the DESIGN 2014 (Dubrovnik, Croatia)
• Providing an own SIG conference HBiD2014 “Analyzing cognitive processes during design”, 14.-17. October 2014 in Ascona (Switzerland) for focused scientific discussion
