Web shop Conditions of Sale and Acceptance of Terms
The Design Society’s products are sold according to the following terms and conditions.
By placing an order you indicate your acceptance of these terms and conditions.
Definitions
“Paper” means an electronic copy of a research paper made available for sale by the Design Society in its Web shop.
“Proceedings” means either an electronic or hard copy of a conference proceedings made available for sale by the Design Society in its Web shop. Items for sale are described as specifically electronic or hard copy.
“Journal” means an electronic or hard copy of a Journal made available for sale through the Design Society Web shop.

Conditions of sale
Downloadable products
In consideration of your payment of the purchase price for a Product, and your agreement to these terms and conditions, we grant you a non-transferable, non-exclusive licence to use the Product subject to these terms and conditions. We will make the Paper or Proceedings available to you through the provision of a download link that shall be delivered to the email address you provide at the time of purchase. These links will be sent to your email box and are valid for 14 days. Please be sure to save the documents you have downloaded.
Hard copies of Proceedings, Products and Journals
We will take all reasonable care to ensure that all details, descriptions and prices of Products appearing on the Website are correct at the time when the relevant information was entered onto the system. Although we aim to keep the Website as up to date as possible, the information including Product Descriptions appearing on this Website at a particular time may not always reflect the position exactly at the moment you place an order. You are always welcome to contact the Design Society for confirmation.
Delivery
Downloadable products - After placing the formal order, you will receive an email from us (usually within 5 minutes), confirming your order and details. You will also receive an email containing the download links for Papers you have purchased. The customer is responsible for providing a correct/working email and postal address.
Hard copy and products - The purchase of hardcopy publications (Proceedings and Journals) and products will be confirmed to the email address you provide at the time of purchase. Delivery of hardcopy products will be made to the delivery address you provide at the time of purchase. Please allow at least two weeks for delivery of proceedings but we will do our best to get your books to you as soon as the order arrives. Journal orders will be transferred to publishers. The terms and conditions of particular Journal publisher may apply.
If you have filled an invalid email address in the payment form due to typing error, please contact us by sending email to contact@designsociety.org.
Customs
When ordering products from Design Society for delivery outside of the EU you may be subject to import duties and taxes, which are levied once the package reaches the specified destination. Any additional charges for customs clearance must be borne by you; we have no control over these charges. Customs policies vary widely from country to country, so you should contact your local customs office for further information. Additionally, please note that when ordering from the Design Society, you are considered the importer and must comply with all laws and regulations of the country in which you are receiving the products. We would like our international customers to be aware that cross-border deliveries are subject to opening and inspection by customs authorities.
Refunds
Products purchased that are downloadable i.e. papers, are not refundable.
Hard copies of proceedings or physical items are refundable if returned to the Design Society in perfect condition within 7 days of the order being received. You must also email the Design Society saying that you intend to return the product.Postage costs to be paid by the customer. No refund will be arranged until the returned product has been received by the Design Society.
Copyright
All rights for downloadable papers are reserved by the Design Society. You are granted a limited licence to use the Paper for your own personal use, or in the case of commercial users for your own internal use, on condition that the Design Society is always cited as owner of copyright. For the avoidance of doubt, the licence you are granted does not extend to providing the Paper to third parties and as such no part of any Paper, or the information contained therein, may be reproduced, stored in a retrieval system, or transmitted in any form or by any means, electronic, mechanical, by photocopying, recording or otherwise, for the purpose of providing the paper to third parties without the prior written permission of the Design Society.
Copyrights of hardcopy products remain with copyright holder as indicated on the products under terms and conditions indicated.
Breach of the conditions of sale or copyright will result in termination of the licence purchased.
Cancellation Period
For downloaded purchases:
As a consumer, you have a legal right to cancel your order for a product within seven working days of your receipt of the email containing the download links. In order to cancel your order you must contact us in writing by sending an email to contact@designsociety.org. We will then arrange for you to be refunded the cost of the Paper. PLEASE NOTE THAT YOUR RIGHT TO CANCEL YOUR ORDER WILL CEASE TO APPLY WHEN YOU BEGIN YOUR DOWNLOAD OF THE PAPER.
For physical goods:
You have the right to cancel your order within 7 days of the order being placed. You must email the Design Society to tell them you wish to cancel and if the item has been dispatched, return it immediately. You will be refunded when the item has been received by the Design Society.
Legal Disclaimers:
The information on the website, in the downloadable links, and in any Paper is provided “as is_ and without warranty of any kind, expressed or implied, including those of merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose. The Design Society makes no warranties or representations regarding the accuracy or completeness of the information on the website, in the downloadable links, and in any Paper.

The Design Society reserves the right to modify these Terms and Conditions and other policies at its discretion. Any such revision or charge will be binding and effective immediately after posting of the revised terms and conditions and policies on our website.
We will not be liable or responsible for any failure to perform, or delay in performance of, any of our obligations under these Terms that is caused by events outside our reasonable control (Force Majeure Event).We have the right to revise and amend these Terms from time to time. You will be subject to the policies and terms in force at the time that you order the Goods or Services from us, unless any change to those policies or these Terms is required by law or government or regulatory authority in which case it will apply to orders you have previously placed that we have not yet fulfilled. If the services are ongoing, we will give you prior notice of any changes to these Terms and you can choose to cancel the Order without penalty.
Privacy Notice:
The Design Society is the data controller for the purposes of the Data Protection Act 1998 (the “Act”) in respect of all personal data that you supply in relation to your purchase of an item. By purchasing an item you consent that we may process the personal data that we collect from you in order to provide you with the item and in order to provide any related support services. We will not use your personal data for the purposes of direct marketing or make it available to third parties without your prior consent. The Act gives you the right to access information that we hold about you. In order to access the information you must contact us in writing requesting such access. Any access request may be subject to a fee of £10 to meet our costs in providing you with details of the information we hold about you.
Governing Law:
These terms and conditions, and any dispute or claim arising out of or in connection with them or their subject matter or formation (including non-contractual disputes or claims), shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the law of England and Wales. You and we irrevocably agree that the courts of England and Wales shall have exclusive jurisdiction to settle any dispute or claim that arises out of or in connection with these terms and conditions or their subject matter or formation (including non-contractual disputes or claims).
