Design Society 'Rigi' Meeting 2025
Each year, key members of the Design Society—including the Board of Management, Advisory Board, SIG, and Chapter Leaders—gather for the Rigi Meeting. This event provides a dedicated space to discuss the Society’s development and administration while also engaging in a week of scientific discussions on critical issues in design research.
In 2025, the meeting will take place from 17–21 March at the Georgia Tech Manufacturing Institute in Atlanta, USA. Named after its founding location in Switzerland, this year's Rigi Meeting marks the Design Society's 25th anniversary since its establishment in 2000.
The origins of the Rigi Meetings date back to the 1980s with the Society's predecessor, Workshop Design-Konstruktion. For those who founded the Design Society in 1999/2000, the term “Rigi Meetings” represents a series of gatherings that began with discussions on the design of machine elements and gradually expanded to address design as a science, a teaching challenge, and an industrial practice—laying the foundation for the Society’s establishment.
The Story of the "Rigi Meetings" was documented in a publication released for the Design Society’s 20th anniversary in 2020, authored by Christian Weber, Mogens Myrup Andreasen and Sandor Vajna. You can read the full publication in DS Publications: Rigi Meetings.
