Congratulations to Professor Panos Papalambros
We would like to share the news that Design Society Fellow, Professor Panos Y. Papalambros has been elected to the National Academy of Engineering (NAE), citing his “contributions to complex systems optimization and leadership in advancing transformative engineering design research and education.”
Election to the National Academy of Engineering is among the highest professional distinctions accorded to an engineer. Academy membership honours those who have made outstanding contributions to "engineering research, practice, or education, including, where appropriate, significant contributions to the engineering literature" and to "the pioneering of new and developing fields of technology, making major advancements in traditional fields of engineering, or developing/implementing innovative approaches to engineering education."
During his academic career, Panos has made numerous contributions to the field of Mechanical Engineering, many whilst based at the University of Michigan, including his role as Founding Director of the Design Science Program and the Integrative Systems and Design Division. As a founding Editor-in-Chief of the Design Science Journal, he has contributed to the proliferation of knowledge through his coordination of the journal, review and scientific contributions towards editorial. As a former President of the DS, former BM member and current AB member, Panos has exhibited a large commitment to the DS and its organisation.
Congratulations to Panos!
